Mariah’s Story

Mariah* is a young woman who first came to Outreach in December as she had recently escaped from a domestic relationship. When Mariah left that relationship, she had to leave her own apartment, with light and gas bills still due. Mariah knew she would be unable to find housing until she was able to pay these bills.

Being without an apartment left Mariah in a position unable take care of her physical health as she needs access to be on oxygen, but she is unable to do so not being in a home. In mid-January, Mariah was approved for a new apartment, but she wasn’t able to move in until she paid off the outstanding light and gas bills from her previous apartment.

Outreach’s church partner, The Creek, helped Mariah pay off the outstanding bills through their generous fund, and she moved into her new apartment! Now, Mariah is able to have access to oxygen like she needs to be able to manage her health conditions and feel safe in her own place again.

It is stories like these that show that the work we do takes a community of relationships to come alongside these youth and young adults to help them reach stability & life transformation. We are so grateful for our partners at The Creek for walking alongside Mariah to get her back into safe and secure housing!
