We asked staff to reflect on a recent experience in their role and how that experience helped bring our mission statement to life. Our In-House Case Manager, Tony, began working here back in July. He shares with one of the impactful moments he has experienced during his time at Outreach.
“I remember meeting this young man. He was big in stature but was timid when it came to self-confidence. We got to know each other, and he told me he loved working on computers and designing programs. I encouraged Desmond to stay focused and keep praying that God continues to work in his life. Desmond was couch surfing and wanted to have his own place, so we filled out his housing application and prayed for something to become available.
A few weeks later, Desmond came on the guys camping trip. I had him read Romans 8:28-29 which reads: ‘And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.’ I encouraged him to trust in God, and during that conversation, something clicked. It was like a light bulb went off inside. He was ready, focused and determined to transform his life and live more sustainably. The next week his housing application came through, and he was getting his own apartment! On top of that, Outreach was able to find a mentor for Desmond to help him learn and grow in his computer programming skills, which he has been meeting with once a week. The change in his demeanor was noticeable to everyone. You could see the way God is working in his life, and it gives me hope!”
